INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONTRIBUTORS

The International Journal "Acta Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae - Polish Journal of Botany", publishes original papers, short Communications and critical reviews in all fields of botany. Manuscripts written in English are to be sent to the editor's address. The suitability of manuscripts will be evaluated by members of the EditorialBoard and other referees.

Submission of a manuscript implies that the paper has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.

Please, conform the general layout of your article to the instructions listed below.

MANUSCRIPT

The manuscript should be submitted in identical two copies. Electronic copies of initially submitted manuscripts are not reguired. Revised manuscripts resubmitted after acceptance for publication must be sent in electronic form (diskette, CD).

The first page must include:

1)  title of the paper,
2)  fuli name(s) of the author(s),
3)  address(es) of his (their) institution(s) and e-mail of first author,
4)  abstract (not exceeding 250 words) presenting the main theses and results of the work,
5)  key words (not more than eight),
6)  suggestion of running headline (abbreviated title) not exceeding 50 characters and spaces.

The main text should, in principle, not exceed 20 pages of normalized typescript, including figures, tables and Literture Cited. The subheadings and places of figures, tables and photos should be clearly indicated in the text (e.g., here Fig. 1; here Table 2, etc.). Only Latin names of genera and species should be written in italics.

LITERATURE CITED

The literature cited and references in the text should follow the style adapted in this issue of the Journal.

TABLES

Tables with titles should be provided on separate sheets of paper and numbered successively.

FIGURES

lllustrations, graphs and diagrams should be made in black ink on tracing or graph paper, not exceeding 19 x 19 cm in size. The lines and symbols should be drawn clearly and boldly enough to stand reduction in the scanning process.

Photographs must be sharp and contrastive (formates not exceeding 19 x 19 cm). Lines, arrows, etc. should be drawn with black ink, preferably on lighter fields of the picture. On darker fields drawing with white ink is admissible. Lettering, arrows, etc., may also be drawn on a transparent self-locating overlay. If several photographs are grouped in one illustration, a separate pattern of their distribution should be added. All illustrations should be nymbered in Arabic and provided with a concise but descriptive legend, lllustrations may be printed in colour if the author accepts the extra cost of their print (300 EUR per one quire).

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PAPERS PREPARED USING A PERSONAL COMPUTER

The Editor asks to submit papers in computer disks. Diskettes 3 1/2" IBM formated, magnetooptic disks 3 1/2" and CD-ROM disks will be accepted. Each disk should be labeled as follows: Author's name, title of paper, list of files, names of processing programme including version number. Only the final version of article must be saved on the disk. Text and graphics should be saved as separate files

The following word processing programmes are recommended: Word, WordPerfect, AmiPro - all versions; ASCII format will also be accepted. Graphics could be done in almost all commercial graphic programmes; the following formats of graphic files are recommended: *.EPS, *.BMP, *.PCX, *.GIF, *.TIF, *.CDR, *.WMF. For graphs and diagrams construction the Microsoft Excel is recommended (all versions). To illustrations submitted in electronic form also their printed copies should be added.

Manuscripts not conforming to these specifications will be returned to the authors without review.
One set of proofs is sent to the first author. Proof-reeding should be limited to the correction of typographical errors.
35 offprints of each article will be supplied free of charge to the first author. Additional reprints can be ordered.

PAYMENT

The print of articles is payable and makes 25 EUR per printed page. After publication of paper, the Treasurer will inform the first author on payment details and account number of the Botanical Society of Poland.
